Pearls, cultured in seawater are also known as Akoya. Natural pearls not cultured but grown without any human help in seawater are much more expensive then freshwater pearls. Freshwater pearls are to nearly 100% are cultured pearls. This difference in costs is because less cultured freshwater pearls turn up as well rounded and lustrous as the Akoya natural pearls.
